François Linke (1855 - 1946) The Belle Époque of French Furniture made a wide range of small tables which were perfectly suited for the new social conditions and limited space of the Paris bourgeoisie at the end of the nineteenth century.

François Linke was born in Pankraz in Bohemia where his parents worked on the land. He began his apprenticeship at the age of thirteen, and four years later made a tour of Austria, settling in Vienna for two years. By 1875 he had arrived in Paris where he seems to have been associated with Zweiner. He first received major attention at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900, where his extraordinary Grand Bureau won a gold medal. His main showrooms were at 170 Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Soon after 1900 he opened another gallery on the prestigious Place Vendome.

The quality of his exceptional armoire and the following lot are typical of the high standards of his work.
