A Fine Pair of Sèvres-Style Painted and Gilt-Decorated Porcelain Two-Handled Urns and Covers

This stunning pair of covered urns reflects the style and excellence of 18th century production from the renowned Sèvres porcelain manufactory in France. Each graceful urn of elongated form features two scrolling satyr mask handles and a loose domed cover with a bud finial.

The front of each urn depicts an elegant 18th century courtship scene, while the back reveals a bucolic landscape of the period with a castle in the distance. Both meticulously painted reserves stand out vividly against a rich cobalt blue ground. One example bears the coveted Sèvres interlace mark underside in blue overglaze.

The stretching bodies display oval medallions front and back framed by ornate molding and gilt geometric borders with a Greek key pattern at the foot. The cover and handles exhibit magnificent gilt bronze ornamentation of acanthus leaf and floral motifs, echoing decorative themes often found on antique Sèvres porcelains.

These handsome painted porcelain urns with their traditional Louis XV period designs would make a spectacular addition to any fine French decorative arts collection.
