Napoleon III Gilt Bronze and Porcelain Mantel Clock By Japy Freres
Japy Frères (French, 1806-1930)Unique Napoleon III Gilt Bronze and Hand Painted Porcelain Mantel clock C.1870's by Japy Freres
This impressive mantel clock in the Napoleon III taste with Sèvres style celeste blue porcelain panels is just exquisite. A central clock face with roman numerals and delicate painting of flying canaries and doves, rests within a gilt bronze composition featuring a greek female mascron flanked by two scroll forms, a set of garlands and two strings of bursting roses. Beautiful hand painted plaques featuring florals, medallions and ethereal women in ancient gardens with putti ornament the clock as well. A watchful lion with a ring in it's jaw is flanked by two swans with elegant curved necks and their wings outstretched. A truly spellbinding overall composition.
