Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912)

A Belle Epoque bronze statue depicting an Allegory of Spring with a seated maiden looking over to view two birds as a putto gathers a bundle of flowers at her feet. 

Signed to base: Math. Moreau

Born in Dijon, Moreau first exhibited in the 1848 Salon, receiving the Medal of Honor from the Salon in 1897. He eventually became the mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, his siblings included sculptors Hippolyte and Auguste Moreau.
